Slides read:
"I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."
- Thomas Edison on the invention of the light bulb

But he did fail, didn't he?

If his goal was to create a functioning light bulb, then he did fail 10,000 times.

My question: why is failure a 'bad' thing?

We have been conditioned to believe that binaries are mutually exclusive. In this example, this shows up as the belief that failure and success cannot exist at the same time.

Well friends, we get to continue to dismantle that unhelpful and untrue conditioning!

Binaries are two sides of the same coin, and BOTH are helpful on your liberation journey.

Join the Binaries of Action workshop tomorrow at 7pm PT!
We will be examining action through an unlearning lens, with a foundation of rāja yoga.

The first quarter lunar energy is guiding you to take action and build momentum towards your dharma.
In this workshop you will dig into dualism, binaries and discover what action means to you.

[Image IDs: Each slide has an almost-transparent background photo of a rope with incandescent light bulbs hanging from it. The glass on the bulbs is tinted orange and the bulbs are not turned on. The rope of lights moves from the foreground to the background of the picture with the second of four visible bulbs in focus. The lettering on top is dark brown and the exact text is noted in the caption. My company logo is centred at the bottom of each slide and reads “From The Hearth,” with a dark brown arrow to the right in each slide except for the last one which has a heart in its place.]
𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗜 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝘁, 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝘁𝘁𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀.

Two nights ago I went to bed in tears. Life was life-ing.

Last night I went to bed with fiery purpose and a remembrance of my relentlessness in my body.

What changed?

We have all heard that ‘time heals.’

Well I have something more clear to offer you which brings me much comfort and understanding in times like these.

In yoga, there is no such thing as time. There is only the changing predominance of three qualities called the guṇas: tamas, rajas and sattva.

You can think of these like the three primary colours: blue, red and yellow.

𝙅𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙪𝙥 𝙤𝙛 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨, 𝙨𝙤 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙪𝙥 𝙤𝙛 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙪ṇ𝙖𝙨.

𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘴, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥.

𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘳𝘢𝘫𝘢𝘴, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘦.

𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘷𝘢, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦.

So when I’m lethargic, I am so for no other foundational reason then my experience contains relatively more tamas than the other two qualities.

𝗜 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗘𝗧 𝗚𝗢 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗜'𝗺 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

When this happens, all I get to do is wait for the inevitable shift of these qualities (change is the only constant).
Or, I can take the driver's seat and practice some of the tools in my yogic tool belt that are specifically designed to sattivicize my experience.

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱.

This is something that really landed for me this week.

In the study of yoga we learn about the Pañcakośa (pronounced ‘Pancha Kosha’) Model, which presents 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪-𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘥, 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵.

In this model, there are five sheaths that make up your full Self. Only one of these sheaths is the physical body – the annamayakośa.

The third sheath - where your mind pervades - is your manomayakośa.

In this moment, as you are reading this using the sense organ of your eyes, you are engaging your manomayakośa. And your manomayakośa is facilitating the storage of this information in your memory throughout your body.

Here are two thought exercises for consideration:

What is a past memory that cropped up recently for you? What was the response in your body that came with that memory?

When has your body guided you to do something different than made ‘logical’ sense? Did you listen? What happened?

Today I am grateful for the opportunity to be insp Today I am grateful for the opportunity to be inspired daily.

It’s hard work. It comes with sacrifice. It comes with pain.

And it comes with levity. It comes with expansion. It comes with grace.

There is meaning to this madness of life!!

I believe. I trust. I surrender.

What are you grateful for today?? 👇🏻👇🏻
